DISCLAIMER: Explosiv Logo is offered on an as-is-basis without any
guarantee as to the correct functioning or fitness for specific
purpose. The authors believe this program to work as described but
the program is used at your own risk. The authors will not be
responsible for any hardware or software damage, loss of data, or
incidental or consequential damage that may result from its use,
whether or not such use is in accordance with the instructions.
IMPORTANT: This program will only work on EGA or VGA monitors. The images
used by Explosiv Logo are 16 color GIF images. If you have 256 color
GIF images that you wish to use in Explosiv Logo, then we recomend that
you purchase or download an image processing package that allows such images
to be properly converted from 256 to 16 colors. A good image processing
package will typically also be able to read in graphic images in most other
PC formats (e.g., TIFF, TARGA, BMP, etc.) and faithfully convert those images
to 16 color GIF images.
Finally, you may wish to rescale your image in the image processing
package so as to take full advantage of Explosiv Logo's screen capturing
ability.
RUNNING EXPLOSIV LOGO FOR WINDOWS :
To run Explosiv Logo in MS Windows 3, copy the files WIM.EXE,
WIM.INI and WIM.DLL to same directory on your computer as the
explosiv logo for DOS files. Then, if you want Explosiv Logo
to start up every time you start windows, just add the path
name along with XXX to the
load=
line at the beggining of your WIN.INI file in your windows
directory.
(e.g., copy the Explosiv Logo files to C:\BIN\SS. Then add
C:\BIN\SS\XXX to the load= line in the WIN.INI file, for example,
load=C:\BIN\SS\XXX )
This can be done with any ASCII editor ( for example, EDIT, the
editor that comes with DOS 5 ). To install Explosiv Logo
for Windows into a windows group, start windows up, click on
the group of your choice and then pull down the Files option
menu from the Windows Program Manger's menu bar and select
New. Choose a new Item to add, the give it a name (Explosiv Logo)
and the executable name, ( as in our example ) C:\BIN\SS\XXX.
Thats it!
Once invoked, Explosiv Logo for Windows can be altered by clicking
on the Explosiv Logo Icon and choosing the setup menu item. A dialog
box will appear, allowing you to select the period of inactivity
(in minutes) Explosiv Logo waits to start, whether or not you want
it to start at all, and which display you wish the screen saver
to run. Note that Explosiv Logo for Windows works by creating a
DOS session and running the .COM or .BAT file which you specify.
You can run explogo.com directly or write a .BAT file which includes
any options that you may wish. By running the Explosiv Logo for
DOS in Windows, you are provided which animation which will be
smooth and flicker free regardless of the size you the image that
is displayed.
More advanced features can be accessed by selecting the Options...
button. From here, you may select any corner on the screen to
turn Explosiv Logo instantly on and another corner to turn it always
off. Finally, by clicking on the Password... button you can set a
password which will not allow Explosiv Logo to turn off unless an
appropriate password is entered. This is especially useful in
confidential office situations. To invoke, enter a password
in the New Password box (Maximum of 9 charaters in length) and
then enter it again in the Confirm Password Box. Now Click the Accept
button. If you did this correctly, the Accept button will say
Success. If you made a mistake, the button will say Failure. Just
start all over again. To change an existing password, enter the
old password in the Old Password Box, and the enter a new password
as outlined above.
RUNNING EXPLOSIV LOGO FOR DOS:
Explosiv Logo is a screen saving utility which prevents pixel burn-in
on your computer display. Rather than simply turning the screen off
while the computer is running, Explosiv Logo displays an always moving
image on screen. As a benefit, you never need wonder as to whether
your computer is turned on or off ( a typical problem with simple
screen blankers ), and you may even find creating your own displays
somewhat enjoyable.
This program will not become a memory resident screen saver until
the m<n> command line option is invoked. Without this option set,
Explosiv Logo will simply be an amusing, but temporary display.
To install explosiv Logo as a screen saver you must use the m<n>
option. For example, if you wish explosiv Logo to wait 5 minutes
before screen saving run the command
explogo m5
If, in addition, you wish explosiv Logo to save any user-defined
fonts then run the command
explogo m5 fonts
To have explosiv Logo run automatically when you boot your computer
you can simply copy one of these lines into your autoexec.bat.
Once memory resident, explosiv Logo can be activated immediately
by pressing the Ctrl-Alt-Shift keys simultaneously. Explosiv Logo
can be disabled by pressing Ctrl-Alt-E and re-enabled by pressing
Ctrl-Alt-B. You should disable explosiv Logo while you are
running a program in which you find that explogo does not work
properly.
OPTIONS :
The following command line options can be used to configure
explosiv logo on your computer :
b<n> By default, pressing Ctrl-Alt-B will enable the
resident version of explosiv logo. Use b<n> to
change this hot key with n = 1 to 26. For example,
b1 will change the hot key to Ctrl-Alt-A and b25
will change the hot key to Ctrl-Alt-Y.
color Use this switch to force explosiv logo to display
the image in color.
ega If explosiv logo does not properly detect your EGA
monitor then use this switch to force the screen
saver into EGA mode.
fonts This option can be used only on a VGA monitor and
requires an additional 4K bytes of memory. This
will save any user defined fonts that, for instance,
some word processors might use.
jerky Occasionaly you may find that the image is not
displayed smoothly. In particular, if you have a
VGA monitor and run an image in EGA display mode
then the motion of the image may be jerky. Use
this option to counteract this effect.
mono Use this switch to force explosiv logo to display
the fireworks in monochrome.
m<n> This option must be specified if you wish explosiv
logo to become a screen saver. Use n = 1 to 30 to
specify the number of minutes of inactivity that
explosiv logo should wait before saving the screen.
new The new option is used to tell explosiv logo that
the remaining arguments should be sent to any
resident versions of explosiv logo.
off Use this option to disable the screen saver without
removing it from memory.
on Use this option to enable the screen saver after
it has been disabled. Explosiv logo will blank
the screen when the monitor is in graphics mode
and run the fireworks when the monitor is in text
mode.
+on Use this option to enable the screen saver after
it has been disabled. Explosiv logo will display
the image when the monitor is in text mode and do
nothing in graphics modes.
-on Use this option to enable the screen saver after
it has been disabled. Explosiv logo will always
blank the screen.
remove This option can be used to remove explosiv logo
from memory. You may not be able to do this
if you have any other memory resident programs
installed above explosiv logo.
small By default, explosiv logo will reserve additional
memory for EGA and VGA monitors when it starts so
that it will be able to properly save the state for
43 and 50 line modes. Use this option to disable
this feature ( reduces memory requirements by 4K
bytes ).
s<n> By default, pressing Ctrl-Alt-E will disable
resident version of explosiv logo. Use s<n> to
change this hot key with n = 1 to 26. For example,
s3 will change the hot key to Ctrl-Alt-C and s26
will change the hot key to Ctrl-Alt-Z.
vga If explosiv logo does not properly detect your VGA
monitor then use this switch to force the screen
saver into VGA mode.
+video With this option, explosiv logo will consider any
output to the screen as activity. That is, it
will reset its counter each time a character is
put on the screen.
-video With this option explosiv logo will not consider any
output to the screen as activity. If you have
a memory resident clock then use this option
to prevent the clock from resetting the explosiv
logo timer.
NOTES :
- Explosiv logo requires that you have an EGA or VGA graphics card.
It will not work on other cards.
- Explosiv Logo detects the presence of Windows 3.x standard and
enhanced modes and will not run ( it won't even blank the screen ).
In this case, you must use the Windows screen saver.
- If you run into problems using Explosiv Logo with another memory
resident program then you can use debug.com to change the
multiplex number that Explosiv Logo uses. The multiplex number
is a signal used by a program to determine if it is already
installed. If two programs use the same number then there
will be some sort of conflict. The value at offset 4 of
explogo.com is the multiplex number used by Explosiv Logo.
This should be a number between 192 and 201 ( in hexadecimal
this is C0 to C9 ).
